The Annual Meeting of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Medical Association UK (AMMA UK) took place today in Islamabad, Tilford. The event saw various presentations, talks and discussions throughout the day by members of the medical association covering topics such as Embryology in the Holy Quran, the effects of fasting in patients of chronic kidney disease and how to get rid of diabetes.
The highlight of the meeting was the address by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa. After Isha prayers, at approximately 8:30pm, Huzooraa attended the closing session of the meeting.
With the arrival of Huzooraa, a portion of the Holy Quran was read out, verse 287 of Surah al-Baqarah followed by its English translation. Next, the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Medical Association, Dr Syed Muzaffar Ahmad Sahib, presented the annual report in which he highlighted the various humanitarian works the association had carried out.
The annual report highlighted that medical professionals from AMMA UK had partaken in projects across the world, including countries like Ivory Coast, Ghana, Malaysia, The Gambia and Pakistan. Medical equipment and supplies were also provided for Fazl-e-Umar Hospital in Rabwah, Pakistan. The women members of AMMA UK had also contributed a great deal throughout the year in various projects, including training and guiding students.
The report further highlighted that throughout the year members of AMMA UK had been taking time to serve at Jamaat Ijtemas, sporting events and Jalsa Salana. Surgical training was also provided by AMMA UK doctors at Fazl-e-Umar Hospital in Pakistan.
Following the annual report, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa presented awards to Lajna members of AMMA UK.
Thereafter, Huzooraa addressed the congregation.
After Tahshahud and Tawuz, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa highlighted the various contributions members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Medical Association UK have made. Huzooraa referred to the training Ahmadi doctors have provided to the gynaecology department in Fazl-e-Umar Hospital, the medical equipment sent by the association, and the works the association has been carrying out throughout the world.
Referring to a hospital construction project in Ivory Coast, originally started by AMMA UK, Huzooraa said that the project was handed over to Humanity First as AMMA UK did no have the funds to see it through. However, Huzooraa emphasised that members of the association should continue to support the project of building the hospital in Ivory Coast by continuing their financial contributions.
Next, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa spoke of a target he had set AMMA UK previously, “to encourage Waqf-e-Nau to enter medicine” and to further “guide and help them” through career guidance. And to “impress upon them” on fulfilling their pledge in dedicating their lives. Huzooraa said, “Sadly, very little progress has been made in this regard” and as a result there is a shortage of doctors in Ahmadiyya Muslim hospitals.
Huzooraa pointed out that it is essential that members of AMMA UK sacrifice a “significant period of time” to serve humanity. Huzooraa said that “a few days or a couple of days a year is not enough”, rather, “sustained periods” are required.
By the grace of Allah, many Ahmadi doctors are serving and sacrificing their time, especially Ahmadi doctors from America, Huzooraa noted. Referring to a doctor from America, Huzooraa said that he had done waqf for three years to serve in the Jamaat hospital in Rabwah. Commending his sacrifice, Huzooraa said “I really appreciate his spirit of sacrifice”.
Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa stressed the need for medical professionals in the field of gynaecology and paediatrics to serve in Jamaat hospitals. A need for Waqf-e-Nau to enter these fields is required.
“A spirit to serve” is needed by members of the Ahmadi Muslims Medical Association. Instead of focusing on the riches of the world alone, Ahmadi doctors should serve for the betterment of humanity and alleviating their suffering. They should present themselves to the Jamaat and serve in this spirit.
Huzooraa reiterated that all Ahmadi medical professionals in the UK and the world should “sacrifice as much time as possible” and “must utilise their skill and knowledge” for serving humanity.
Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa ended with excerpts of the Promised Messiah, peace be upon him, regarding service to humanity. The Promised Messiahas said that “sincerity towards others and love for humanity is part of faith”. However, this service must be without any expectation or reward.
Huzooraa said that the words of the Promised Messiahas he had read out should be the “guiding light” of the members and etched into their “hearts and minds”.
Huzooraa reminded the members that they should be thankful to Allah for being granted knowledge and skill and to “utilise these skills to alleviate the suffering of mankind”.
The congregation was then led in silent prayer by Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa.
