Pakistan: Christian girl in Multan set on fire for rejecting marriage proposal from Muslim boy

A 20-year-old, Christian girl passes away after she was set on fire by a 24-year-old Muslim boy whose marriage proposal she had declined.

According to details, the perpetrator Ahmed Latif had proposed to Sonia Bibi for marriage but she refused. Ahmed Latif became infuriated and poured gasoline oil on Bibi and set her on fire.

Bibi received extensive burns and died Tuesday, November 2,  in Multan’s Nishtar Hospital.

Previously, there were hopes that Bibi would survive, according to doctor Naheed Chaudhary, head of Burns Department at Nishtar Hospital, where Bibi was rushed to for treatment.

However, it has been reported that Bibi's burns contracted severe infection which exacerbated her condition and she scummed to her injuries.

Before here death, Bibi had narrated to the police that Latif Ahmed was her ex-boyfriend, who had set her ablaze as a consequence of her rejection of his marriage proposal.

Jamshaid Hayat, a local police official, told the media that Latif Ahmed has been booked by police and the first round of investigation has been conducted.

“Police arrested the man after recording the statement of Sonia Bibi in the presence of her parents," said police officer Hayat. "The girl told us that she was in love with Latif, whom she accused of dousing her in gasoline and setting her alight."
